PYW is dedicated to creating a  positive and structured learning environment for children interested in learning the sport of wrestling.  Participation in PYW is for children between the grades of kindergarten and sixth grader. Participants will be exposed to the sport through basic fundamentals and drills appropriate for their age group and abilities.  There will be an emphasis on fun and participation through drilling, practicing, and live wrestling situations.  

GRYWL - League Dual Meets

This  season PYW will be participating in the Greater Rochester Youth Wrestling League  (GRYWL). Wrestlers will have an opportunity to compete to be part of the Penfield traveling dual meet team.  Wrestlers will not be limited to the age but rather there will only be one wrestler for each weight class, regardless of their age. 

Dual Meets

Throughout the season,  (sessions 2 & 3) dual meets will be scheduled with other youth local wrestling programs.
There are various formats for the dual meets, witch will be determined at later dates. PYW is more interested in developing wrestlers and pairing wrestlers with common age and abilities than it is at winning championships. The dual meet format will mostly be round robin events, focusing on mat time.
There will be no additional cost for Dual meets throughout the season.

Tournaments

All wrestlers will be entered into the PYW Tournament (tentatively Martin Luther King Day weekend)

Wrestlers will be encouraged to compete in tournaments though out the season, however this is NOT a requirement to participate in the PYW program. 
New York State is divided in to various sections, the greater Rochester area is located within Section V. Tournaments are a available all year however the tournament season really heats up after the new year.

The NYWAY State championships are in March,. There are divisions and weight classes for all PYW wrestlers to compete.  Tournament competition is extra and entry fees can be paid directly to the host programs.
